Eastern Pacific Shipping (EPS) has signed a final agreement with Rotterdam-based Value Maritime (VM) to install carbon capture and filtration systems on two tankers with the ability to equip three more vessels.
Filtree System technology allows ships to capture up to 40% of CO2 emissions, with the potential to exceed 90% in the future, according to Carbon Capture World.
Installation on board M/T Pacific Cobalt is expected to be completed by the end of 2022, and installation on board M/T Pacific Gold is scheduled to be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2023. Design and planning work is underway.
Vessels with a deadweight of 49,700 tons will be equipped with VM's Filtree System, a prefabricated gas purification system that filters sulfur and 99% particulate matter. The system will include a carbon capture module that will charge the built-in CO2 battery, which will be discharged at the port.
Captured carbon will be used by CO2 consumers, for example in greenhouses, or introduced into the network for binding. The discharged battery will be returned to the vessel for a new cycle.
