Metinvest Mining and Metals Group is investing UAH 1.4 billion this year to install solar and gas power plants for the needs of its own enterprises.
Ihor Tonev, CEO of Metinvest's United Minings in Kryvyi Rih, said this in his speech at the Exporters Summit 2025, Forbes reports.
Gas-fired power plants are planned to be installed at two enterprises: Central and Northern Mining and Processing Plants.
Central Mining will also have a solar power plant at its disposal.
According to Igor Tonev, Ukrainian banks will finance the implementation of power plant construction projects. Agreements with them are already at the final stage.
Earlier in a press release, the company said that the planned gas-fired power plants would have a total capacity of about 20 MW, and the SPPs would have a capacity of 23 MW. Through the construction of these energy facilities, Metinvest aims to minimize technological risks for its enterprises during possible power outages.
In 2023, Metinvest joined the Mariupol Reborn project. Azovstal and Ilyich Iron and Steel Works, which were destroyed in Mariupol, will be rebuilt from scratch using new green technologies. The company also joined the development of Ukraine's Green Strategy for the next 20 years.
In October 2023, EcoPolitics reported that despite the full-scale war, Metinvest's green transition strategy remains unchanged. This was stated by the group's CEO Yuriy Ryzhenkov.
