Environmental inspectors have calculated UAH 14 million in damages from the felling of 426 trees on the territory of the Chornobyl Radiation and Ecological Biosphere Reserve.

This violation was discovered during raids in late February, the State Ecological Inspectorate of the Capital District reported on Facebook.

Such inspections were launched as part of the activities of the Interagency Working Group.

It is noted that during the first inspection, environmental inspectors found 420 pine trees and 6 oaks with a diameter of 12 to 25 cm cut down.

"The total amount of damage is 14 million hryvnias," the statement said.

The press service explained that this amount was calculated according to the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers No. 575 of May 10, 2022 "On Approval of Special Tariffs for Calculating the Amount of Damage Caused by Violation of the Law on the Nature Reserve Fund."

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that during the first unscheduled inspection of the Chornobyl zone, the raid team found more than 500 stumps of cut trees and plowing of land for agricultural work in the Radiation and Ecological Biosphere Reserve.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, 32 mobile raid teams have been set up in the Chornobyl exclusion zone to detect violations of environmental legislation, including hunting, felling, plowing land for agricultural purposes, fishing, etc.
