This measure is necessary for the conservation and protection of crayfish populations during their natural reproduction

On June 1, a ban on fishing for crayfish was introduced in the reservoirs of the Zakarpattia region.

The prohibition will be valid by July 25, 2022, the press service of the State Agency for Reclamation and Fisheries reported.

The State Fisheries Agency explained that the ban, according to the order of the Department of the State Fisheries Agency in the Zakarpattia region from 25.05.2022 № 184, was established in order to preserve and protect the population of crayfish during their natural reproduction.

"The current unfavorable environmental situation and poaching are actively contributing to the reduction of natural stocks of crayfish. Therefore, we appeal to citizens to be responsible and not to ignore this ban, because the population of crayfish in reservoirs depends on how the reproduction process takes place," the agency said. .

They also stressed that hunting these arthropods during the ban is a violation of environmental legislation in accordance with Art. 85 КУпАП. For each illegally obtained specimen of cancer, the violator will have to pay damages in the amount of UAH 3,332 and a fine of up to UAH 680.

Before EcoPolitics reported that the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine supported the initiative of the State Fisheries Agency and increased fines for illegal fishing tens and hundreds of times depending on the species of fish.
