Zelensky called on Iceland to help Ukraine with energy efficiency

Iceland's experience in energy efficiency will be useful for Ukraine, the President said

The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky invited Iceland to take part in the reconstruction of Ukraine, in particular in its energy modernization.

The call to help Ukraine in energy modernization was made in the address of our head of state to the people and authorities of Iceland, informs EP.

"We are already preparing for the reconstruction of our country. And to ensure a truly free and comfortable life, to guarantee the well-being of our people, we invite our friends and only friends to participate with us in the program of Ukraine's reconstruction," Zelensky said on May 6 during a speech in the Icelandic parliament via video link.

He invited Iceland to share its experience in energy efficiency with Ukraine.

"I invite your countries and companies to take part in the reconstruction of Ukraine, in particular the energy modernization of our country, so that your experience in energy efficiency will also help us. I am confident that we will soon be able to start this work," said the President.

Zelensky also thanked Iceland for supporting Western sanctions and called for continued pressure on Russia to renounce any trade and financial ties with it.

According to the Icelandic broadcaster RUV, after the speech deputies at the invitation of the speaker silently stood up as a sign of respect to struggle of Ukrainians.

Speaking after Zelensky's speech, Prime Minister Catherine Jacobsdouttir said Iceland would continue to support European sanctions against Russia and demand an investigation into war crimes.
