Information from the register will be open to the public

In Ukraine on October 8 Law No. 2614-IX "On the National Register of Emissions and Transfers of Pollutants" entered into force, in connection with which polluting enterprises must enter data about their facilities into the RTD within 6 months.

Entrepreneurs will be able to register installations online on the single platform "EkoSistema", reports Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources.

It is noted that the national register of emissions and transfer of pollutants is similar to the European one, but provides for a more simplified procedure.

According to the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Ruslan Strilets, in two years the Ukrainian register is planned to be integrated with the European one.

"Therefore, Ukraine will be able to exchange relevant, verified data with the competent EU authorities and synchronize its own environmental policy. To realize this goal, consultations are currently underway with representatives of the European PRTR to combine the components of both systems," he said.

The message emphasized that the first stage of the formation of this register will be the registration of economic entities.

The press service explained that the registration will be carried out in a peopleless format, that is, without the participation of an official. It can be carried out personally by the head of the enterprise or a representative due to "sharing of rights". Installation data is entered according to system prompts.

It is noted that at the second stage of PRPP formation, enterprises will submit reports.

The message emphasized that information from the register will be open, that is, the public will have free access to information about every enterprise whose activity affects the environment.

"In this way, Ukraine will fulfill an important part of its international obligations – under the Aarhus Convention and the Protocol on Registers of Emissions and Transfer of Pollutants," the press service added.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in June 2023 The Cabinet of Ministers approved the Procedure for maintaining the National Register of emissions and transfers of pollutants.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, on September 20, the Verkhovna Rada approved in the second reading government bill No. 6477 "On the National Register of Emissions and Transfer of Pollutants", which will create a single state online data system. In October, the document was signed by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi
