The war will have an impact on thousands of kilometers around the Ukrainian border

The Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources, Ruslan Strilets, said that the fate of the entire European continent is laid in Ukraine today, particularly in the field of environmental policy.

This happened at the UN International Conference "Environment for Europe", which is held once every five years, reports Ministry of Environment on Telegram.

He emphasized that this conference gives Ukraine a unique opportunity to declare to the whole world about the consequences of the russian invasion, in particular for the environment.

"Ukraine is ready not only to fight for its future. We are initiating the creation of a Global Platform for the development of international methods for assessing environmental damage from military actions. The Ministry of the Environment already has significant achievements in this area and is ready to share them with the whole world. This is important, because the war will have an impact on thousands of kilometers around the Ukrainian border. Environmental damage for Ukraine alone already amounts to at least €36 billion," Strilets emphasized.

He also thanked the countries that support Ukraine in the struggle and the President of the House of Representatives Annita Demetriou for organizing and moderating the conference.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that theeco-inspectors calculated 1.3 trillion hryvnias in damages, which russian troops have done to the environment of Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale invasion.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, Svitlana Grynchuk, Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine for European Integration, said that russia's war against Ukraine accelerates climate change and causes an increase in greenhouse gas emissions.
