On Friday, June 17, NNPGC Energoatom and JSB Ukrgasbank signed a memorandum on joint implementation of a project to deploy a national network of charging stations for electric cars.
It was reported by press service Ministry of Energy of Ukraine.
The memorandum was the first step in implementing such a project. According to the document, the use of Ukrgasbank's financial capabilities and Energoatom's production and technical potential as the largest electricity producer in Ukraine is envisaged.
"Today, another important step has been taken to develop the infrastructure of electric transport and create a national network of charging stations in Ukraine, identified sources of funding for the development of this network throughout the country," said Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko.
According to the head of the Ministry of Energy, the deployment of the network will help Ukraine fulfill its international obligations to decarbonise and reduce environmental pollution.
"For Energoatom, it is also an entry into the retail market of electricity sales, which will significantly increase the company's capitalization," said NNPGC head Petro Kotin.
Energoatom noted that it has significant reserve capacity for the production of "cheap and clean electricity", which can also be supplied to new segments of the domestic market.
"We are implementing a truly large-scale project on the way of innovative transformation of Ukraine's transport infrastructure into European environmental standards," said Denis Chernyshov, Chairman of the Board of Ukrgasbank.
It will be recalled that last year Ukrainians bought 8.5 thousand electric cars, which is 20% more than in 2020. At the same time, in April-May 2022, the demand for electric cars in Ukraine increased 15 times, in particular, due to fuel shortages and rising fuel prices.
As of June 1, 36.6 thousand electric cars were registered in Ukraine, the monthly increase in the fleet of electric cars is almost 800 cars.
As reported EcoPolitics earlier, in May 2022, the Ukrainian fleet was replenished with more than a thousand electric vehicles , which is 63% more than the same period a year ago.
We will add that in Ukraine buyers of electric car models may waive the payment of the fee to the Pension Fund.
