A new nuclear power plant to be built in Cherkasy region near the city of Chigyrin, the project of which was developed in the 1970s and frozen due to the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
The project was discussed at a working meeting with the representative of "Energoatom" Serhiy Kostenko in the Cherkasy region, reports GSMinfo.
The article noted that the Ukrainian Government has decided to consider the possibility of building the station, but the terms have not been determined.
The authors explained that Chygyrin has a convenient location, necessary water resources and electrical networks. And the new station will create new jobs and new opportunities for the community.
The construction of a new nuclear power plant will depend on the results of geodetic works on the territory where the station is planned to be built, if they meet all the requirements of experts. The new nuclear power plant will be located in the Orbita village near the town of Chigyrin.
The material explained that the existing documents regarding the NPP are outdated. Therefore, it is necessary to calculate the budget and develop a plan according to modern requirements and standards.
The authors also noted that Ukraine signed a memorandum with Weistinghouse Electric, which deals with the construction of 5 new power units. Ukraine planned to complete the construction of 2 new power units at the Khmelnytskyi nuclear plant, but the USA proposed to increase the number to 5 units.
As EcoPolitic reported before, experts from the Center for Economic Recovery stated that in Ukraine, investors in the wind energy sector can complete the construction of at least 300 MW of capacity, out of the 600 MW that were planned for launch in 2022. This will help ensure own needs in and export green energy in the EU.
