The organic matter left over from gas extraction will be used as fertilizer

A new bioenergy complex is planned to be built in the Dubno District of Rivne Oblast. The biogas plant will produce electricity and biomethane using waste from crop and livestock farming.

This was reported by Zahid.net.

The energy facility project belongs to the Ukrainian agro-industrial group "Technologia." It is currently known that the company will sell the generated electricity on the energy market or use it for its own needs. As for biomethane, the company plans to feed it into the Ukrainian gas transmission system.

Production with and without waste

The project identifies chicken manure, cattle manure, and corn silage as resources for biogas production. The biogas will subsequently be converted into biomethane, as well as into electrical and thermal energy.

Any remaining raw materials after energy production will be used as fertilizer.

Project scale

The new complex is expected to deliver the following annual production volumes:

  • biogas – up to 15 million m³;
  • biomethane – up to 6 million m³;
  • electricity – up to 25,000 MW·h.

To operate the plant, 35 employees will be needed. The complex can operate continuously, regardless of the season.

EcoPolitic previously reported that Ukrainian biomethane has the potential to fully replace natural gas. However, to achieve this, the sector requires at least €40 billion in investment.

Meanwhile, Germany has already declared its readiness to import biomethane from Ukraine for thermal energy production.
