As is the case across Ukraine, the number of clean energy generation facilities in the Odesa region continues to rise. According to the regional military administration, there are currently almost 90 stations operating in the region, utilising various renewable sources: solar, wind, hydro and biogas.
This was reported by the media outlet ‘Odessa Life’.
There are 78 stations in the region connected to the ‘green’ tariff, including those that have come online in the region since the start of 2026.
A further 11 ground-mounted solar power stations generate electricity without feeding it into the national grid.
Who are the frontrunners?
The renewable energy sector in Odesa generally follows the trends seen across Ukraine as a whole. Solar power also leads the way here, with its facilities currently accounting for 75 per cent of the region’s total electricity generation.
"Silver" — from the wind. Wind power stations account for 22 per cent of total clean electricity generation.
Both businesses and households
It is not only businesses that have their own solar power generation capacity. Data from the Odesa Regional State Administration show that 4,637 private households in the Odesa region already have solar power stations.
"They meet their own needs and can feed any surplus electricity they generate into the grid," said Oleg Kipper, head of the Odesa Regional State Administration.
The administration also emphasised that the ‘green’ energy sector is developing rapidly, with a steady stream of new facilities of various types emerging. Another feature of renewable energy development is distributed generation, which is not confined solely to large power stations, as there are many smaller installations, including private ones.
EcoPolitics reported that Ukraine ranked seventh in Europe in terms of the pace of new wind power capacity installation. These figures relate to the first half of 2026.
The wind energy sector in Ukraine already has a capacity of around 1.1 GW, whilst the solar energy sector has a capacity of 7.3 GW. The share of ‘green’ energy in total electricity generation in 2025 stood at 11 per cent.
