With such actions, Russia causes colossal damage to the surrounding natural environment

As a result of the actions of the Russian invaders, 410 million cubic meters of water — worth almost 15.5 billion hryvnias — leaked to the temporarily occupied Crimea through the North Crimean Canal.

State Environmental Inspection of Ukraine reports about it. The water leak occurred as a result of the destruction by the occupiers of the dam of the Kahovsky Reservoir.

"On the first day of the full-scale invasion, February 24, 2022, Russian troops seized all hydrotechnical facilities of the North Crimean Canal, located in the Kherson region. The occupiers gained control over these facilities in order to supply water to Crimea, and in simple words, the occupiers began to steal our water for your needs!" said in the message.

The SEI recalled that on February 27, the enemy destroyed the dam, the road bridge and the main blocking structure of the canal, which caused an uncontrolled flow of water from the Kakhov reservoir through the North Crimean canal.

It is noted that in order to bring the aggressor state to justice and further reparations, the experts of the State Inspectorate have developed the Methodology for determining damages caused as a result of water pollution and/or clogging, arbitrary use of water resources, which entered into force on September 2, 2022.

"We emphasize that with such actions, Russia is causing colossal damage to the natural environment and natural resources of our country!" added in the department.

As EcoPolitic reported earlier, eco-inspectors previously announced consequences of the war for the environment of Ukraine in 8 months.
