The National Commission for Regulation of Energy and Utilities (NCRECU) has approved licensing conditions for energy storage activities.
The relevant resolution "On approval of licensing conditions for conducting economic activity for energy storage" National Commission approved on Tuesday, May 31, May 31,
It is on the regulator's website.
"The approval of this document is the first step towards streamlining the activities of licensees for energy storage in the electricity market," the press service of the National Commission for Energy Regulation said.
The National Commission noted that the license conditions establish an exhaustive list of documents that are attached to the application for a license to conduct energy storage activities, as well as determine an exhaustive list of requirements that must be met during such activities.
They also explained that the main task of energy storage systems is to optimize the operation of the electricity market by aligning the schedule of its consumption and production. In this way, they help to maintain the reliable operation of the power system as a whole.
With their help, it is easier to integrate energy facilities, including "green" generation enterprises, into the energy system of Ukraine and provides greater predictability of the planned schedule of capacity delivery to the network.
"Approval of the License Terms will ensure the use of energy storage systems, balance the operation of the energy system and increase the stability of electricity supply to consumers," the National Commission for Energy Regulation said.
As the draft resolution "On approval of licensing conditions for energy storage" has the features of a regulatory act, it was published on the official website of the NCRECU in order to obtain comments and suggestions.
We will add that the license conditions are developed for implementation of the Bill of Ukraine "About the electric power market", taking into account the changes brought by the Bill of Ukraine 46 2046-IX "About modification of some laws of Ukraine concerning development of energy storage facilities" which comes into force on June 16, 2022.
According to this law, energy storage is an activity related to the extraction of electricity in order to postpone its end use.
As reported EcoPolitics formerly, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed the Bill "On the use of energy storage devices in Ukraine, which will balance the operation of the energy system and increase the stability of electricity supply to consumers."
