Ukraine plans to produce more than 90% of electricity from carbon-free sources by 2050, and by 2030 to add 2 GW of nuclear generation and increase the share of RES in the energy mix to 30%.
Such plans of Ukraine regarding the post-war reconstruction of the energy sector, in particular regarding the increase of renewable and nuclear generation, were supported by the Vice President of the European Commission Frans Timmermans during the meeting, the Minister of Energy Herman Galushchenko reported on Facebook.
He noted that the issue of sanctions against the Russian energy industry was also discussed at the meeting. Timmermans noted that Europe is effectively abandoning dependence on Russian fossil fuels.
"At the same time, it is extremely important that the exclusion of Russia from the list of key exporters of energy resources does not become a temporary phenomenon for the period of the war," Galushchenko emphasized.
The Minister of Energy also emphasized that Russia should forever disappear from the list of major exporters of the world energy market.
Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that during the post-war reconstruction, emphasis will be placed on the implementation of green projects, and that Ukraine is ready to become one of the European hubs of modern green energy.
As EcoPolitic previously reported, modern nuclear energy can become an alternative to coal and natural gas and help the world achieve decarbonization goals.
