In France, 3.2 GW of solar capacity was installed in 2023, increasing the total capacity of SPPs to 20 GW.
The country uses a regional approach to installing SPPs, which improves local energy sustainability and contributes to national energy security and independence, EV Wind reports.
It is noted that 19.3 GW of SPPs are located on the French mainland, and the rest – in Corsica and other territories. In 2023, the addition of new capacity increased significantly, as in 2022, 2.68 GW was installed in the country, and in 2021 – 2.57 GW.
"France reaching the milestone of 20 GW of solar capacity is not just a number, it is the country's firm commitment to reducing carbon emissions and transitioning to more sustainable energy in the future," the article emphasized.
EV Wind said the total capacity of solar projects awaiting grid connection also increased significantly to 22.4 GW, of which 5.8 GW have pre-connection agreements.
The significant backlog of solar projects awaiting grid connection reflects growing interest and investment in solar energy, as well as the need for improved grid capacity and flexibility, it said.
