In Ukraine, preparations have begun to study the scale of the use of plastic in various sectors of the economy and real ways to replace single-use plastic to limit its circulation.
The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Pro-Consulting consulting agency, the Ministry of Natural Resources reports on Facebook.
The company has already provided the Ministry with the results of research on the market for disposable tableware, paper and plastic, the market for biogranules and biodegradable tableware.
Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Yevgeny Fedorenko explained that these materials will help form the basis for the development of a bill to limit the use of single-use plastic products in Ukraine.
“We have a task from the president to continue moving along the European path, including the implementation of the 2019 EU Directive (2019/904) on single-use plastic,” he said.
Fedorenko explained that the next step would be to prepare in-depth analytics on how widely plastic is used in various sectors of the Ukrainian economy. Based on it, a practical plan will be formed to reduce its use and replacement.
The message emphasized that this would be quite relevant in the period of post-war reconstruction.
Fedorenko noted that, despite the war, Ukraine continues to follow European trends in the fight against plastic invasion.
“Our country will have enough trouble with destruction waste, so it is important not to clutter up the territory with plastic garbage. We need to take care now that after the victory Ukraine will be even more modern, civilized, European, clean,” he said.
Fedorenko also stressed that any legislative act should be based on solid analytics. After all, only such changes will give a positive result.
He added that the Ministry of Natural Resources is open to cooperation and dialogue with all potential partners seeking to introduce qualitative changes in the country and take care of the Ukrainian environment.
Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that registered in the Verkhovna Rada bill No. 6077 "On limiting the production and circulation of single-use plastic products on the territory of Ukraine".
As EcoPolitic reported earlier, a report by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development showed that by 2060 the amount of plastic waste in the world will triple and exceed one billion tons.
