The project will be possible thanks to state funding from decarbonisation support schemes

In France, Air Liquide and lime maker Lhoist have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to decarbonise the plant in Reti, Aix-en-Provence, to reduce CO2 emissions by more than 600,000 tonnes a year from 2028.

This is equivalent to the annual emissions of about 55,000 French households, reports Businesse Sincerely.

The material noted that lime is one of the industries that is difficult to decarbonize, as its production produces CO2 as a result of limestone decomposition. And the "Chaux et Dolomies du Boulonnais" Lhoist site in Reti is the largest lime plant in France.

As part of the project, Air Liquide will build and operate an installation of its innovative and patented Cryocap technology TM FG for capture and purification of 95% of CO2. The captured CO2 will be transported to the multimodal CO2 export center in Dunkirk. This technology will be used for the first time to decarbonize lime production in France.

The project will be possible if public funding from European or French decarbonisation support schemes becomes available. Air Liquide and Lhoist have jointly applied for a large-scale competition from the European Innovation Fund.
