The war opened a window of opportunity for the RES development – an expert

After the life of a part of the population in towns and villages without electricity, people felt the importance of their own generation

In Ukraine, the war created a new reality, because its own autonomy and uninterrupted power supply became the main driver of demand for domestic SPPs, which even leads to a shortage of some equipment.

The war opened a window of opportunity for the development of RES, said Oleksiy Badyka, founder and chief director of the Atmosfera company in the field of green energy, the Solar Energy Association of Ukraine reported on Facebook.

He said that before the full-scale war, experts tried to expand the awareness of Ukrainians about solar energy and show the advantages of its own consumption and energy freedom. Before the war, the idea of selling excess electricity produced to the state at a preferential rate was very popular.

"It was very important for us to create demand among potential solar energy consumers for the idea of increasing their own consumption of produced energy. With the arrival of the invaders on our land, what was planned as work for years happened in months," said Badyka.

The main trends of society:

  1. The demand for solar power plants under the green tariff has almost completely disappeared, because most investors have lost the opportunity to receive payments for the energy produced.
  2. The demand for autonomous home SPPs with the use of lithium batteries and SPPs for own consumption has increased significantly.

That is, consumers began to first of all ensure uninterrupted power supply and compensate for their own energy consumption.

Badyka noted that after the life of a part of the population in cities and villages without electricity, people felt the importance of their own generation, because with a solar plant the house will have light, heat and all electrical appliances will work.

In addition to the enormous losses, damaged generation facilities and the outflow of personnel in the industry, the war also opened a window of opportunity for development, in particular in terms of reconstruction and energy modernization.

"In a couple of years, we see the renewable energy sector of Ukraine as one of the most innovative and efficient in Europe. At least from the point of view of legislation, procedures, technical regulations, which will meet the most modern global requirements," said Badyka.

It is impossible to rebuild outdated networks in a few years. However, it is possible to create all the necessary conditions and test the main elements of a new, decentralized, sustainable energy system.

This will bring Ukraine closer to energy freedom.

Badyka also called on representatives of the alternative energy business to participate in all initiatives and business associations aimed at sustainable development, energy decentralization and the development of renewable energy in Ukraine. This will intensify the struggle for energy freedom and the transition to clean energy.

Necessary changes:

  • reasonable regulation of the market and creation of conditions for the natural development of renewable energy without additional subsidies and subsidies from the state;
  • mandatory adoption of laws on net-metering or net-billing systems, and general liberalization of the energy market;
  • reduction of state regulation and intervention, cessation of administrative and tax pressure on business in general.

"Now is the time to let businesses do their thing, stay afloat, save jobs and fill the budget with taxes not by force, but by their own will," said Badyka.

The majority of entrepreneurs, owners and shareholders of Ukrainian companies are maximally involved in helping the army and the volunteer movement, and also try to do everything possible to restore the operation of their business and save jobs, pay taxes on time.

"Also, new ideas are constantly being implemented, one of which for us was the creation of the Atmosfera NRG.Space business hub," he added.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that the Ministry of Energy has initiated a draft law on supporting the production of green electricity by generating plants of consumers, which provides replacing the green tariff with a new model Net billing support.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, the SmartFlower solar energy system was opened in Ukraine in Ternopil, that looks like a sunflower flower that is capable of intelligently tracking the sun, producing up to 40% more energy.
