Ukraine should contribute to the global fight against climate change

The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources has published a revised draft of the Cabinet of Ministers' order "On the approval of the plan of measures for the implementation of the Updated Nationally Determined Contribution of Ukraine to the Paris Agreement for the period until 2030".

The document defines key measures that will contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions to achieve a carbon-neutral economy by 2060, the Ministry of the Environment reports.

It is noted that the draft order will stimulate the fulfillment of Ukraine's European integration obligations in the field of environmental protection. The document contains key measures regarding:

  • supply of energy resources;
  • industry;
  • transport;
  • buildings;
  • Agriculture;
  • waste;
  • forest use, changes in land use and forestry;
  • science, research and technology.

In the explanatory note, it was emphasized that the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine should be based not only on the reconstruction of the destroyed, but also taking into account climate goals, the green transition and the transition to a sustainable economy. Ukraine, as a candidate for EU membership, should bring its legal regulation closer to the European one, strengthen competitiveness and energy independence. And also to contribute to the global fight against climate change and contribute to the fulfillment of climate commitments.
