LLC Operator GTS of Ukraine received applications from more than 10 companies that are considering the possibility of building 31 biomethane plants with a capacity of 225 million cubic meters in Ukraine. m per year.
This was stated by the company's general director, Dmytro Lippa, at the parliamentary hearings devoted to the development of alternative energy sources, according to the company's Facebook page.
It is noted that representatives of ministries, businesses and people's deputies took part in the event.
"Successful positioning of Ukrainian biomethane on the EU markets requires a detailed and balanced approach, the purpose of which is to develop mechanisms for cross-border trade in biomethane, in particular, the removal of barriers to the sale of biomethane transported by the gas transportation system in EU countries," said Lippa.
He emphasized that it is also important to unify regulatory requirements for biomethane with EU countries and remove internal restrictions on its export, in particular:
- coordination of customs formalities for registration of the movement of biomethane across the border;
- ensuring the issuance of guarantees and certificates of origin of biomethane, which will be recognized on the domestic and foreign markets.
Lippa added that for the development of the industry, it is also necessary to create additional financial instruments for cross-border lending, which can be used, in particular, to fully or partially cover the producer's costs for connecting to networks.
"The GTS operator is interested in a joint and quick search for such solutions," he emphasized.
It is noted that stakeholders have an understanding that realizing the potential of the biomethane industry is an important step towards:
- energy independence;
- decarbonization;
- integration into the European gas market as a full partner.
As EcoPolitic previously reported, the National Commission for State Regulation in the Energy and Utilities Sector approved a decision to promote the development of biomethane production.
