Implementation of modern European practices regarding energy efficiency policy is a constant priority of Ukraine

The head of the State Agency for energy efficiency and energy saving Valery Bezus discussed with representatives of the Embassy of the Republic of Austria in Ukraine the continuation of cooperation in the fields of energy efficiency, decarbonization, and renewable energy.

They paid special attention to the possibilities of developing Ukrainian bioenergy, which can replace energy resources, reports the State Energy Efficiency Agency on Facebook.

"Ukraine and Austria have a wide horizon for strengthening cooperation in view of global energy challenges," the press service of the State Energy Efficiency Agency noted.

The message emphasized that despite the war, Ukraine maintains the energy front and is working on the prospects of EU membership. Within the framework of European integration obligations, progress has been made in the implementation of EU directives in terms of energy efficiency and renewable energy.

"Implementation of modern European practices regarding energy efficiency policy is a constant priority of Ukraine. Therefore, we value the practical exchange of experience and cooperation with EU countries, in particular Austria," said Bezus.

He also spoke about the active work on the development of the legal framework for the implementation of the Law of Ukraine "On Energy Efficiency".

The meeting also discussed the development of production and use of biomethane, which corresponds to both national interests in the field of energy security and European energy policy.

"The urgency of this direction is due to the need to diversify sources of energy supply, replace gas imports, load the GTS and promote the decarbonization of the economy in the future," the message explained.

Bezus emphasized that all resources were accumulated at the state level to unlock the development of bioenergy in the biomethane segment.

"The corresponding law was adopted, the procedure for the operation of the biomethane register was approved, changes were made to the GTS and GTM Codes regarding the terms of biomethane supply. We are currently working on the development of the biomethane register, studying the experience of European partners, including Austrian ones," he said.

Bezus also emphasized the importance of using a cluster approach for the highest possible recovery of Ukraine's regions.

Gabriele Gazelsberger, trade adviser of the Embassy of Austria in Ukraine, assured of sincere interest in supporting Ukraine and promoting investment in the reconstruction of the country.

The message noted that the areas of cooperation between the two countries will be discussed in detail at a meeting of the Ukrainian-Austrian joint commission at the end of November 2022.

Earlier, EoPolitic wrote, that the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal and Federal Chancellor of Austria Karl Neghammer discussed the development of green energy, strengthening trade and economic relations and the European perspective of Ukraine.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that Ukraine can become one of the guarantors of energy security of the European continent, help overcome the cost of living crisis and avoid crisis prices in the future.
