The plant produced 2.1 MW of electricity every year

In Great Britain, lightning struck the company's biogas plant Severn Trent Green Power near Oxford in Yarnton

A huge ball of fire rose into the sky, and there were power outages in the town, reports NDTV.

"Fortunately, no one was injured and we are working with emergency services to make sure the site is safe so we can assess the damage as soon as possible," the company said.

The fire was extinguished by 40 rescuers on six fire trucks.

It is noted that the plant annually processed 50,000 tons of solid and liquid waste into biofertilizers and 2.1 MW of electricity.

Police blocked off the main road nearby and advised local residents to stay indoors.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that prepresentatives of the Danish operator of the gas transportation system "Energinet" stated that the country plans to 100% replace natural gas with biomethane by 2030. Currently, 34% of gas demand in Denmark is provided by biomethane.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, in Great Britain, Community Windpower stopped the construction of the 44-turbine Sanquhar II wind farm due to the tax on excess profits from renewable energy.
