In Kyiv, in the Darnytsky district, near the Bortnichy housing estate, Lake Korovyache is planned to be declared as a landscape reserve of local importance, the area of which will reach 1 hectare.
A corresponding petition was registered in the Kyiv City Council to protect the natural object from destruction and preserve botanical and zoological diversity, reports Kyiv City Council.
"The territory of the natural object is the habitat of many species of birds, black ferret and weasel, which are protected according to the annex to the resolution of the Berne Convention. The lake is also important in shaping the microclimate of the district, willow, birch and black alder grow along the banks of the reservoir," said Kyiv City Council deputy Dmytro Bilotserkovets, who submitted the project.
Bilotserkovets also added that the creation of the reserve will contribute to the improvement of the environment, ensure the effective functioning of the corridors of the ecological network of Kyiv and guarantee the preservation of valuable natural complexes and groups of rare plants and animals.
The project was developed by scientists of the Charitable fund of the Dnipro district of the City of Kyiv "Kyiv Ecological and Cultural Center", which defines the main measures for the preservation of natural complexes, which are taken under protection on the territory of the planned object of the nature reserve fund.
Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that the Kyiv City Council supported the decision to create a landscape nature reserve on both slopes of Protasiv Yar, for which public figure Roman Ratushny fought.
As EcoPolitic previously reported, the Kyiv City Council is being demanded to prohibit mowing the grass in the city, because it damages the environment and requires significant financial costs.
