Two lakes in Kyiv – Zaplavne in the Darnitsky district and Malynivka in the Dnieper – received the status of protected landscape reserves of local importance.
The decision to create new environmental facilities in the capital was made by the Kyiv City Council on May 14, according to its official website. The initiatives were supported by 61 and 63 deputies respectively.
Now reservoirs and their coastal territories are protected from development. For example, for Lake Malynivka, the protective strip is 4 hectares.
Approximate area of the natural area "Lake Zaplavne" – 70.8 hectares.
"Lake Zaplavnoye is one of the largest in Kyiv. The territory of the object is inhabited by three species of amphibians, including the green toad and the moored frog, which are protected by the Berne Convention. This territory is also a nesting site for 11 species of birds, a significant number of which are rare or rare or endangered Given that the number of wetlands that are suitable for recreation of migratory waterfowl in Ukraine is now sharply reduced, it is necessary to make it impossible to destroy this territory," said Denys Moskal, a member of the Kyiv City Council.
According to him, the announcement of a landscape reserve of local importance will make it impossible to build a green area in this area, will contribute to the improvement of the environment, ensure the effective functioning of the corridors of the ecological network of the city of Kyiv and create conditions for the preservation of valuable natural complexes and groups of rare plants and animals.
The deputy also noted that Lake Malynivka is a natural eutrophic lake, which is protected in accordance with the annex to the resolution of the Berne Convention. The reservoir is also of great importance in the formation of the microclimate of the region.
"It is necessary to preserve the landscape, botanical and zoological diversity of the valuable natural complex of Lake Malynivka and its coastal protective strip in the territory of the Dnieper region. The territory of the object is a habitat for three species of amphibians, at the same time, a nesting environment for many species of birds that are disappearing," noted Moskal.
As the deputy added, the project was developed by scientists of the organization "Charitable Fund of the Dniprovsky District of Kyiv" Kyiv Ecological and Cultural Center".
Before EcoPolitics reported that Mount Yurkovitsa in Kyiv are planning to declare a landscape reserve of local importance.
