Ukrainians were urged to prepare for possible power outages in the winter period, because the probability of Russian terrorist attacks on the power system is very high.
In the winter of 2023, enemy shelling damaged up to 50% of the entire energy system of Ukraine, and it has not yet been possible to restore all generation facilities, Kyiv City Council member Kostyantyn Yalovy reports on Facebook.
"According to experts' estimates, it is unlikely that terrorists will succeed in completely plunging Ukraine into darkness, but local power outages are again very likely," he emphasized.
How to prepare for blackouts:
- Find out about the nearest unbreakable points;
- Stock up on water, the most necessary medicines and food for long-term storage;
- Check the readiness of your lighting devices (flashlights, candles, rechargeable, gas lamps, etc.);
- Keep all electronic devices fully charged and ready for use (power bank, charging station, radio). Charge the phone at the first opportunity – do not lower the charge below 25%;
- Make sure you have cash;
- Buy reflective strips for safe movement on dark streets;
- Agree in advance with relatives and friends about the place where you will meet in case of lack of communication;
Yalovy emphasized that, unlike last year, Ukraine has more anti-aircraft defense, repair equipment, powerful passive protection has been installed over part of the energy facilities.
"This gives us hope that this winter will be easier than the last. But you always need to be prepared for the worst scenario," he added.
As EcoPolitic previously reported, life hacks and tips on energy efficiency, which are used all over the world, have been prepared for Ukrainians.
