Russian aggression is causing environmental pollution throughout Europe – Grynchuk

Representatives of AMORCE offered to restart cooperation between local communities of Ukraine and France

Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources for European Integration Svitlana Grynchuk said that due to Russian aggression, pollution is increasing, which will negatively affect the environment of the entire European continent.

One of the important issues in Ukraine today remains the resumption of environmental monitoring, the Ministry of Environment reports on Facebook.

This happened during Grynchuk's speech at the 36th Congress of the French AMORCE association.

The message noted that the representatives of the French association were interested in the following topics:

  • energy and water security of Ukraine;
  • waste management under martial law.

"Due to Russian military aggression, our services record an increase in air emissions, soil and water pollution. Unfortunately, all these consequences of the war have a detrimental effect on the environment not only of Ukraine, but also of the entire European continent. The state of water, soil and air of countries, which are neighbors of Ukraine," Grynchuk said.

She also emphasized that one of the most important issues in Ukraine today remains the restoration of environmental monitoring. After all, due to the fighting, the Russians destroyed or stole part of the monitoring stations for the state of water resources, soil and air. Grynchuk called on the participants of the Congress to help Ukraine restore the environmental monitoring system.

The event also discussed waste management during the war. After all, another type of waste has appeared in Ukraine - destruction waste. The Ministry of Environment together with the Ministry of Development of Communities and Territories takes care of solving this issue.

"The relevant procedure has already been developed and approved by the Government. As for the issue of waste management, this industry, like all in Ukraine, suffered significant losses due to Russian aggression," said Grynchuk.

The message noted that AMORCE representatives thanked for the speech, which demonstrated how difficult the situation in Ukraine is. They promised to consider the issue of assistance to Ukraine in the field of environmental monitoring and offered to restart the cooperation of local communities of Ukraine and France under the coordination of AMORCE.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that Sweden is ready to help Ukraine in implementation of projects in the field of waste management in accordance with EU best practices.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Yevgeny Fedorenko said that in 8 months of full-scale invasion Russia has caused more than €37 billion in damage to Ukraine's environment.
