Local residents helped clear a silted-up stream for fish migration

Employees of the Tuzlivski Limany National Nature Park, together with residents of the village of Primorske, have managed to restore water exchange through a channel that had previously been blocked due to natural silting.

This was reported by the press service of the Tuzlivski Limany National Nature Park on Facebook.

The channel connects two estuaries – Malyi Sasyk and Shagani. According to Ivan Rusev, Doctor of Biological Sciences, this creates favorable conditions for the unhindered migration of fish from the estuaries to the sea and back.

The peculiarity of clearing the channel is that people did not use special equipment to dig the trench, but only shovels and improvised tools.

“Wild animals quickly respond to improved environmental conditions, in particular to the restoration of water exchange. Active migration of hydrobionts, in particular atherina fish, has been recorded,” said Ivan Rusev.

Earlier, EcoPolitics reported on illegal fishing worth UAH 3 million, for which the violators were brought to justice.
