Vanilla Steel experts revealed when the top 10 crude steel producing countries plan to achieve climate neutrality

Europe has become a leader in achieving carbon neutrality, and its steel industry is at the forefront of building a sustainable economy.

Experts at Vanilla Steel, a digital steel platform, on LinkedIn monitored countries that have introduced laws, policy documents or specific promises to get rid of carbon emissions in the coming decades.

They also showed when the top 10 crude steel producing countries plan to achieve climate neutrality.

According to Statista, in 2021, only 66 have set a target year in their policies, laws or proposals of the 135 countries pledging to achieve climate neutrality.

"Although this figure is still relatively low, some major players such as Saudi Arabia have joined the ranks of countries that have pledged to implement plans to combat climate change at the COP26 climate summit," the material notes.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that a HYBRIT study showed that iron produced by direct reduction iron (DRI) has better properties and quality.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, steel producers in Europe will have to review their decarbonisation strategies due to rising prices for natural gas and electricity. Strategies may also be affected by potential natural gas supply constraints.
