KP "Vodokanal Plyusu" has not paid a claim for more than 734 thousand hryvnias for two years

In 2024, the Kobeliaky community in Poltava Oblast plans to eliminate and reclaim a 1.3-hectare landfill in the Kremenchuk forestry.

Waste has been dumped in the forest since 2018, which has led to soil and groundwater contamination, according to Suspilne.

Local residents said that they periodically smell unpleasant odors from the landfill. However, the landfill is located far in the forest and does not affect the townspeople much.

Serhii Tkachenko, the director of the communal enterprise "Vodokanal plus", which is engaged in the removal of garbage in the community, said that currently no garbage is being taken to the landfill, and the territory has been closed. In addition, garbage sorting and separate collection were launched on the territory of the enterprise.

He added that the dump was formed during the leadership of his predecessor.

It is noted that the State Environmental Inspection submitted a claim to "Vodokanal plus" for the amount of more than 734 thousand hryvnias. For two years, the amount of the claim was never paid, because of this, the State Inspectorate sent the materials to law enforcement agencies. Criminal proceedings have been initiated against the ex-director of the enterprise, and the trial is ongoing.

"This waste is placed on an open plot of land without an appropriate waterproofing substrate. And therefore the leachate gets into the ground, it pollutes underground water and soil. In addition, how can this waste threaten the environment? Spontaneous ignition occurs in the summer, then the spread of various infectious diseases," she said. eco-inspector Yulia Kostyuchenko.

According to the specialist of the architecture and urban planning department of the city council, Serhiy Kitayhora, there is currently no money in the community's budget for liquidation of the landfill. They are likely to be included in the 2024 budget.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in the Poltava region, residents of the village of Krasne opposed the potential construction of a waste processing plant near the community.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, in Kryvyi Rih, in the village of Rudnychne, during the month several trucks delivered spoiled bread and one that had not yet expired to the spontaneous landfill. Violators will face a fine of more than three thousand hryvnias.
