Residents of the village of Krasne in Poltava region have opposed the potential construction of a waste processing plant near their community.

According to the people, the plant will pollute the air and groundwater, reports the weekly Echo.

The acting mayor of Kobeliaky, Vasyl Feshchenko, assured residents that there was no threat to the environment. In addition, construction will not begin without numerous examinations.

He emphasized that the authorities of Kremenchuk and Horishni Plavni are now competing with each other for the construction of the plant.

"However, those present did not agree with the arguments given by Vasyl Feschenko and voted against the construction of the plant. Also, those present unanimously supported the proposal to appeal to the city deputies with the demand to cancel the decision on the allocation of a plot of land for the construction of a waste processing enterprise," the material said.

The material added that the protesters expressed their distrust of the Krasnodar mayor Halyna Zaichenko. After all, she did not ask the opinion of the community regarding the construction of the plant and did not attend meetings. Feshchenko explained that during the meeting, Zaichenko held an outside reception in another village.

As EcoPolitic reported earlier, they will build in Poltava Oblast four waste processing plants, which will be able to process up to 500,000 tons of waste per year. The relevant memorandum was signed by the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources, Ruslan Strelets, with the head of the Poltava Regional State Administration, Philip Pronin, and the leaders of the Lubensk, Kremenchuk, Poltava, and Kobelyatsk communities.
