In Odesa, mobile operator lifecell equipped one of its base stations with seven solar panels.
This will make the station energy independent and provide communication for thousands of Ukrainians even during blackouts, Deputy Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov reported on Telegram.
He said that the mobile operator is currently testing the updated base station. Engineers monitor the results and are satisfied with the quality of work and uninterrupted communication.
Fedorov emphasized that operators are actively preparing for the autumn-winter period already today. Thus, of the 34 base stations, 90% are already equipped with batteries, and 10 with generators.
"Operators are replacing lead batteries with lithium ones so that communication can last longer in the absence of light. I thank the liaison officers for their work," he said.
Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that Ukrainian mobile operators started convert individual base stations to solar energy. Thus, in the fall of 2022, lifecell installed a SES at one of the stations in the South of Ukraine, and "Vodafone Ukraine" has already had such a station near the Carpathian mountain Hoverly for 4 years.
As EcoPolitic previously reported, mobile operator lifecell started a pilot project with powering base stations from solar panels with a total area of 84 m2, producing up to 16 kW of energy.
