Jeeps damaged a third of the Kozinsky landscape reserve

In the Kyiv region, jeepers set up racing tracks in sanctuaries "Kozynskiy" and "Vasylkivski Karpaty".

In the "Vasylkivskiy Carpathians", jeeps have already destroyed the entire population of the red-listed plant of the crescent moonflower, the Kyiv Ecological and Cultural Center reports on Facebook.

It is noted that more than 30 species of birds nest in the "Vasylkiv Carpathians", as well as rare insects and plants. The customer is located in the Vasylkiv district near the village of Velyka Bugaivka.

"Since the 2010s, the hilly terrain of the reserve has become a favorite place for jeepers. One of Yanukovych's sons held a jeep competition here. Every year, bird nests, young rabbits, lizards, insects, and rare plants are destroyed under the wheels of jeeps," Kyiv Ecological and Cultural Center said.

Environmentalists added that local residents have repeatedly appealed to the authorities to ban jeeping, but to no avail.

They emphasized that the jeeps also damaged a third of the "Kozinsky" landscape reserve of national importance.

The message noted that the wild nature of Ukraine, unlike the USA, Australia and many European countries, is practically not protected from jeeping. Off-road drivers have fun in forests, mountains, water conservation areas and nature reserves.

"The Ukrainian authorities, as well as broad sections of the public, did not care about this issue for a long time," the ecologists wrote.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in Volyn, the district court ordered the driver of a Hummer SUV, who in the summer of 2023 drove along the shore of Lake Svityaz and even partially drove into the water, to pay UAH 7.2 thousand to the Shatskyi National Park for the damage.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, in Rivne the smooth rivers of Ustya are systematically used for commercial riding on scooters and ATVs, which harms wild flora and fauna.
