In the Kherson region, the regional prosecutor's office is conducting a criminal investigation into ecocide, namely the death of about 4 million chickens, at a poultry farm in Chernobaevka.
On the territory of the enterprise, the investigation discovered the burial place of the dead bird – a pit with a depth of about 3 m with an area of 1880 m2, reports Office of the Attorney General on Telegram.
Also, some of the chickens are in poultry houses.
The report noted that due to the massive shelling by the Russian troops in March 2022, the enterprise was left without power supply. It was one of the largest and most modern poultry farms in Ukraine.
The authors explained that due to the occupation, the enterprise was not able to feed the birds and maintain a sanitary regime. The vast majority of chickens died.
“Considering that as a result of the actions of representatives of the aggressor country, bacterial contamination of a large area could occur, law enforcement officers conducted investigative actions at the enterprise,” the report says.
Experts took samples to find out how the pestilence affected the environment.
The prosecutor's office initiated the necessary investigations. The pre-trial investigation continues.
Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in the Kherson region Chernobaev poultry farm, the largest in Europe, lost almost four million chickens because of the war started by Russia.
As EcoPolitic reported earlier, on March 2, due to shelling, the power supply to the Chernobaevskaya poultry farm near Kherson was interrupted. The farm was left without the opportunity to feed the birds and maintain a sanitary regime. Therefore, the birds at the factory could simply die, and the massive the pestilence of birds could result in large-scale environmental pollution.
