With the help of EcoZagroza, Ukrainians can report all cases of environmental damage that they have witnessed

The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine expanded the functionality of the mobile application and web resource EkoZagroza, through which citizens were called to join the ecological battalion.

From now on, the service will, among other things, have an ecological social network, an English-language version and information on the chemical composition of water in rivers, the press service of the Ministry of Environment reports on Facebook.

Among the most important updates, the press service singled out the appearance of the "User Cabinet". This will allow:

  • you will receive notifications about all existing environmental threats in populated areas (chemical, radiation danger, etc.);
  • have access to an ecological social network.

"It is here that experts, scientists, representatives of the public and concerned citizens publish data on the discovered facts of extraordinary environmental events in different parts of our country. There is an opportunity to comment or share important information with friends, read expert opinions and views or express your own opinions, or simply monitor the state of the environment and always be "in the loop" of what is currently happening in the country," the message said.

The press service emphasized that the application is used by residents of the USA, Germany, Poland, the Netherlands, France, the United Kingdom, Austria, Italy, the Czech Republic and Switzerland to monitor the level of radiation

"In connection with the nuclear blackmail of the Russian Federation, the whole world's attention is focused on this topic today. We want everyone who is concerned about the environmental situation in Ukraine to have the opportunity to get such information," explained the press service of the creation of the English-language version.

In addition, two new layers of information have been added to the EcoThreats interactive map:

  • data from 553 stations of monitoring and environmental assessment of water resources – in real time;

The report noted that this will allow obtaining complete information about the chemical composition of water in rivers, in particular, monitoring the content of nitrogen, sulfates, chlorides, ammonium ions, nitrates, nitrites, phosphates, and mercury. And you can also immediately see if there are excesses according to certain indicators.

  • map of air alarms.

Also, from now on, the dashboard displays the environmental damage calculated by the State Inspectorate from the war with the Russian Federation, which was carried out according to new approved methods.

"We continue to work on ensuring that everyone has information about the state of the environment on their smartphone - in a convenient, understandable format, when it is needed. Because today, informed means armed. And clearly, in this sense, digitalization simplifies life. I would also like to remind you that with the help of "EcoZagroza" Ukrainians can report to the Ministry about all cases of environmental damage that they have witnessed. Because today it is important for us to determine the full extent of the damage in order to bill the occupier in full. So arm yourself with a phone or a computer and join the ranks of the environmental battalion," said Ruslan Strelets, head of the Ministry of Environmental Protection.

The press service added that the project was implemented with the support of the USAID/UK aid project "Transparency and Accountability in Public Administration and Services/TAPAS".

As EcoPolitic reported before, Ministry of Environment launched the official resource and mobile application EkoZagroza  with data on threats to the environment and invited Ukrainians to join the environmental battalion.
