Lviv received the prestigious European Energy Award certification for the implementation and planning of effective energy and climate policy measures.
The city received a score of 60.1%, and the community showed the highest percentages in the areas of communication and mobility, in particular in public transport, bicycle paths and pedestrian zones, reports Association "Energy-efficient cities of Ukraine".
"The audit of the city lasted more than half a year, and we started the evaluation work in 2019. During this time, we prepared a comprehensive analysis of the city in six sectors," said Maryana Prystupa, consultant of the European Energy Award in Ukraine.
The article noted that in addition to the analysis and report, the consultants prepared a four-year plan to improve the level of community development, which was approved by the executive committee in December 2021.
The authors emphasized that Lviv became the third city in Ukraine to receive certification after Vinnytsia and Zhytomyr. The Vinnytsia community was the first in the Eastern Partnership countries to successfully pass EEV certification in 2015 and to confirm the certificate in 2019.
The article explained that the award is a tool for improving the quality of governance in communities. It also encourages Ukrainian cities to reduce energy consumption, increase energy efficiency, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions. The certification was launched in Europe and over 1,500 municipalities received it during its 25 years of existence.
