When burned, hydrogen remains completely safe for the environment

In Albania, an international group of researchers has discovered a large natural source of ecological fuel—hydrogen.

This was reported by The Pulse.

According to the scientists' report, an underground water basin located at a depth of 950 meters releases approximately 200 tons of natural hydrogen annually. This is 1,000 times more than in other similar systems found by scientists.

After analyzing the geological structure of this site, scientists have estimated that the potential reserves of natural hydrogen here could range from 5,000 to 50,000 tons.

Ecoportal notes that this discovery gives hope that natural hydrogen may actually be much more widespread on our planet than previously thought. At the same time, there are many options for its use.

What are the advantages of hydrogen?

According to experts, natural hydrogen has the potential to become one of the tools for overcoming humanity's dependence on fossil fuels. Therefore, new deposits of this resource not only open up economic opportunities for certain countries, but can also help stop global climate change.

The main advantage of hydrogen is that it is environmentally friendly. When used as fuel, the only by-products are heat and water.

In July, the European Commission completed the development of a regulatory framework for renewable and low-carbon hydrogen.

The new rules apply to low-carbon hydrogen produced from non-renewable electricity using carbon capture and storage (CCS), or when carbon is permanently chemically bound in long-life products.
