In Ukraine, plan to ban the use of disposable plastic dishes

Anna Velyka

The Ministry of Environment assured that the ban on the circulation of single-use plastic products on the Ukrainian market will not take place "as soon as tomorrow"

Currently, a bill is being developed that will allow the implementation of the European Directive 2019/904 and gradually limit the circulation of single-use plastic products in Ukraine.

Such legislative initiatives were reported by Mindovkill.

In particular, it is planned to ban the production, import, introduction into circulation and distribution of such products as:

  • hygienic cotton buds with a plastic base;
  • Styrofoam containers and plastic containers in the form of blister packs or trays – for ready-made food products that are consumed on site or taken away;
  • stirrers and straws for drinks;
  • sticks attached to balloons;
  • skewers;
  • disposable forks, knives, spoons, plates, etc.

In the ministry assured, that we are not talking about the fact that tomorrow or in the next year Ukraine will establish a ban on the circulation of single-use plastic products. The experts said that first of all, it is necessary to develop the relevant national legislation, and to determine the transitional periods of the implementation of certain requirements, the stages of gradual withdrawal of such products from the market and the transition to alternatives. The specialists assured that this work, based on the analysis of global trends, has already begun "to be ready to meet European requirements and live by the rules established in the European Union."

Before, Ecopolitic reported that in the EU they plan to ban it single-use plastic packaging by 2030.
