Ukraine is already taking steps to attract the necessary investments

The European green course can become the basis of the post-war green development of Ukraine and solve the problems that arose after February 24, 2022.

This was stated by the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources, Ruslan Strilets, on the broadcast of the "Yedyni Novyny" telethon, stressing that there is a clear understanding at the highest political level that reconstruction should be green and using the best available technologies.

He emphasized the importance of restoring destroyed houses, schools, and other social facilities according to new standards, including modern energy-saving technologies.

Strelets emphasized that the energy security of both Ukraine and the entire European continent depends on the development of renewable energy.

"We are already taking steps today to attract investments in such projects," he said.

Thus, in 2022, at the conference in Lugano, Ukraine signed an agreement with Switzerland to attract investments in Ukrainian climate projects of green recovery. In addition, a corresponding declaration was signed with Japan at the Climate Summit COP27. Negotiations with other international partners are ongoing.

The shooter also drew attention to the problems of the green recovery of industry.

According to the Kyiv School of Economics, at least 412 enterprises have been damaged or destroyed since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, of which 64 are large and medium-sized enterprises. But this number can be much higher.

"We understand that we must make considerable efforts to obtain financial instruments to restore our economic stability. And it is important to carry out this restoration using technologies that will harm the environment less," the minister emphasized.

He also explained that Ukraine is negotiating with other countries to attract the necessary funds for green reconstruction.

"For us, an important challenge is the adoption of appropriate legislation and the introduction of the emissions trading system in Ukraine, its synchronization with those countries that will conclude agreements with Ukraine," said Strilets.

He also noted that currently the Ministry of Environment, together with deputies of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Environmental Policy and Nature Management, are finalizing draft law No. 6004-d on industrial pollution control. The document will introduce the framework of the best available technologies, according to which the eco-modernization and reconstruction of enterprises should take place. It will also allow attracting international grants and international technical assistance.

Strilets emphasized that the German government has already allocated funds on eco-modernization of Ukrainian enterprises. Within the framework of the program, co-financing of several projects is envisaged €2 million to implement Best Available Technologies and Management Methods (BTMs) and reduce industrial emissions.

He expressed confidence that the experience of implementing this program will be a quality start for cooperation with other European partners.

As EcoPolitic reported earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that during the post-war reconstruction, it will be done emphasis on the implementation of green projects, and Ukraine is ready to become one of the European hubs of modern green energy.
