Apple has announced its intention to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030. At the moment, more than 320 suppliers, accounting for 95% of the company's direct production costs, have switched to clean energy.
This is reported by TechTimes.
It is noted that since the beginning of 2018, all of Apple's internal operations have become completely carbon neutral. The company is now starting to cooperate with suppliers. Since the main production center is located in China, where coal-fired power plants predominate, the transition to clean energy is becoming a problem.
In addition, the company guarantees that the total amount of electricity used by customers to charge Apple devices will meet clean energy standards.
Realizing that electricity consumption will contribute significantly to its carbon footprint, Apple encourages global suppliers to adopt renewable energy practices and achieve carbon neutrality in all Apple-related operations.
"More than 320 suppliers, representing 95% of Apple's direct manufacturing costs, have led the transition to renewable energy to date, bringing 16.5 gigawatts of renewable energy into operation across Apple's supply chain. Last year, it generated more than 25.5 million megawatt-hours of clean energy in the supply chain and avoid emissions of more than 18.5 million tons of carbon dioxide," the company reports.
The company is reportedly actively investing in various clean energy projects around the world. In the US, in particular, Apple is developing solar projects in the state of Michigan, with the goal of creating 132 MW of clean energy for further use in the network. In Spain, Apple is collaborating with the company ib vogt and is developing a solar energy project that will generate 105 MW of energy by the end of 2024.
It is reported that Apple also plans to reduce the use of water in production processes and increase the share of purified water. The company has already made significant progress in this area, but by 2030 the goal is to restore 100% of the fresh water used in production.
To achieve its goals and become a carbon-neutral company, Apple plans to work with clean energy and use recycled materials in the production of batteries and other processes.
In addition, the company emphasized that it will use 100% recycled cobalt for the production of new batteries.
As EcoPolitic previously reported, the Ferrexpo company intends to build a new solar power plant with a capacity of 10.8 MW to meet the needs of its production.
