New waste after sorting will be taken to the Stryi landfill

In the Lviv region, in the resort village of Slavska, a landfill is being rehabilitated and a garbage sorting line will be installed in the community.

The landfill poses a risk of environmental pollution for 50 years, reports LMN.

It is noted that the community has already announced a tender on the Prozorro platform for the reclamation of the solid waste landfill. The expected cost of the works is 50.8 million hryvnias.

The head of the village council, Volodymyr Bega, said that 90% of the waste at the existing landfill is no longer suitable for sorting. Thanks to the waste sorting line, raw materials for processing will be selected from the new waste, and the rest will be taken to the Stryi landfill. The line will help reduce the load on the landfill.

"After it [the sorting line] is installed, there will no longer be a landfill in Slavske, only a sorting line. Of course, everything depends on weather conditions, but we plan to do it as soon as possible, in a few months," he said.

Bega added that according to the head of the resort village, the risk of contamination of the surrounding territories from the landfill has existed for 50 years.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in Lviv, the construction of a waste processing plant should be completed by the end of 2023 and be launched in February-March 2024.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, a sorting line at the landfill in the village of Zabrude will be built in Kiverka, Volyn, where organic and solid municipal waste, as well as tires, will be processed.
