The river was on the verge of an ecological disaster

In the occupied Melitopol of the Zaporizhzhia region, the Molochnaya River rivulet silted up, its waters became white, covered with white foam and acquired a sharp unpleasant smell.

The likely cause of this pollution was a sewerage break and sewage entering the river, but the occupiers are inactive, reports ria-m.tv.

It is noted that the ecological problems of the river began a long time ago. In particular, due to the plowing of floodplains, deforestation on the banks and arbitrary construction of dams. This has led to a decrease in the level of groundwater, which is important for feeding the river, sea fish and reducing biodiversity.

In the material, it was emphasized that earlier communal workers regularly looked after the river, and law enforcement officers prosecuted those responsible for pollution. In 2021, the river began to be cleared, but the work was not completed before the occupation.

"The river became shallow, the springs that fed it silted up, in many places on the way to the Milk Estuary it was overgrown with reeds. And in some places her condition is simply frightening. The state of the ecosystem is simply deplorable," ria-m.tv said, adding that the occupiers are inactive.

It is noted that it is not the only ecoproblem of Melitopol. Thus, residents complain about a black coating of unknown origin that appears on window sills and on houses covered with siding.

As EcoPolitic reported earlier, in the occupied Mariupol, the rivulet of the Kalchik River was completely covered with slag in two places. In the Sea of Azov all living things are dying en masse.
