This destroys the ecology of the Sea of Azov

In occupied Mariupol, the riverbed of the Kalchika River was completely covered with slag in the area of the destroyed bridge on Kuindzhi Street.

Earlier, the occupiers filled Kalchyk near the Extreme Park, and the water pipe was routed through a pipe, Mariupol Mayor Petro Andryushchenko reports in Telegram.

He emphasized that the catastrophic consequences of such actions may manifest themselves already in the summer of 2023.

"The ecology of the Sea of Azov is simply destroyed every day from February 24, 2022. If not with bombs, then with such deliberate actions," wrote Andryushchenko.

It is worth noting that the occupiers have already dismantled the brick mini-dam on the Kalchyk River, which protected the river from waterlogging. The flow of the river has slowed down, its waters have become gray-green in color and have a strong smell of decay. After that, the river was filled up.

Earlier, Andryushchenko said that the flow of the river is almost completely stopped, because of which the flora and fauna of Kalchik are doomed to perish. In addition, it will increase the salinity of the sea, thus creating favorable conditions for jellyfish and causing significant damage to fish populations.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, in Mariupol, the occupiers completely filled up the Kalmius river channel. This can become a real ecological and natural disaster for both the city and the Sea of Azov.
