The State Service of Geology and Subsoil of Ukraine suspended for 5 years the special permit for the extraction of gas and condensate of PJSC Ukrgazvydobutok on the territory of the Merefyansk community near Kharkiv.
As a result of mining, the water in the lake and wells of the villages of Verkhnya and Nizhnya Ozeryan are contaminated with oil products (11.8 times higher content) and iron (37.7 times higher), reports the Facebook community News of Ozeryan.
Local residents associate water pollution with the activities of Ukrgazvydobutka. Thus, one of the residents of the village said that the water has become cloudy and dirty, has an unpleasant swamp smell, foams and turns white when boiled. Mining also causes significant noise pollution, which even vibrates the windows and walls of buildings.
The message said that the appellate court also overturned the decision of the city council on the granting of easements to the company Ukrgazvydobutok for the passage of transport and the laying of pipes in communal areas.
Activists explained that this decision was the basis for the signing of contracts between the Merefyan City Council and Ukrgazvydobutok.
"Now we will initiate the termination of these two contracts," they added.
It is noted that the legal process is also ongoing regarding the declaration of illegality and cancellation of the conclusion of the environmental impact assessment regarding the construction of the company's exploratory well.
As EcoPolitic previously reported, water in households in the villages of Verkhnya and Nizhnya Ozeryana in Kharkiv region has turned yellow and sticky, its surface is covered with an oily film, and the water itself has acquired an unpleasant smell. Local residents associate such changes with the activities of PrJSC "Ukrgazvydobutok".
