Every year in Poland, 40,000 people die from smog

In Poland in the city Shchytno residents of one of the high-rise buildings made their home energy self-sufficient thanks to solar panels on the balconies and roof.

This will avoid 70 tons of carbon emissions per year, and the residents of the building will save on heating and hot water, reports Das Erste.

The material noted that the panel high-rise building was built in the 70s of the last century.

The head of the house, Zbigniew Hrapkowski, said that due to rising tariffs in 2014, they installed a heat pump in the basement and a photovoltaic system on the roof. This made it possible to save up to 80% of electricity costs. And balconies with solar panels were installed in September 2022.

Khrapkovskyi emphasized that the residents of neighboring houses and neighborhoods, to whom he proposed to join the initiative, did not take modernization seriously. However, they regret it now.

The resident of the house said that the standard temperature in the apartments is about 22 degrees. In addition, the new balconies allow you to heat the apartment in any season of the year. She also emphasized that the city has poor air quality due to the use of fossil fuels for heating other buildings.

The article emphasized that such modernization helps in the fight against climate change and environmental protection.

"If we applied this to other similar apartment buildings, that's 25,000 across Poland. Just imagine how much money could be saved, how much clean energy, how much cleaner the air would be. 40,000 people die every year from smog. They would still be alive!", said Khrapkovsky.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that Poland's Minister of State Property Jacek Sasin said that the country is forced to postpone the closure of coal mines, but their final date of operation – 2049 – will remain unchanged. The shutdown will begin after the first nuclear power plant starts up.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, in Poland, a new "cannon" was installed in the city of Kalwaria-Zebzydowska, which uses sound waves to propel toxic particles higher into the atmosphere. She will help to combat high levels of smog in the country.
