The bridge can turn the Sea of Azov into an estuary or a bay

Eco-activists from the environmental protection organization "Ekodiya" said that the construction of the bridge across the Kerch Strait endangered the ecosystems of Crimea and the Sea of Azov.

This project has already destroyed nature on the island of Tuzla in the Kerch Strait, reports "Ekodia" on Facebook.

They noted that war harms the environment not only directly through fighting and destruction, but also during the stages of preparation and logistics.

According to them, the Crimean bridge can:

  • destroy the ecological balance in the Sea of Azov;
  • harm the seasonal migration of fish and cetaceans;
  • disrupt hydrological processes.

"It can even turn the Sea of Azov into an estuary or a bay," ecoactivists emphasized.

They also added that the construction of the highway from Kerch to Sevastopol and the extraction of materials for this destroyed numerous historical and natural territories, in particular the unique Bakal spit.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that the experts of the Crimean Tatar Resource Center conducted analysis of climate change features, manifestations of natural phenomena and trends in climate comfort for the population of Crimea, as well as identified the territories most vulnerable to environmental changes.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, scientists of the Tuzlivski Lymani National Nature Park in Odesa calculated that during the period of the full-scale war in the Black Sea at least 5,000 dolphins died.
