Since the beginning of the war, the staff of the Environmental Protection Department (UPD) has been continuously working at the Zaporizhstal metallurgical plant, doing the necessary work every day to reduce the burden on the environment.
Ecologists of the enterprise do not stop their work even during the war, because the preservation of the ecological situation of the region is invariably one of the priorities in the activities of Zaporizhstal, writes Metinvest.media .
“Our department works continuously, every day we make sure that all environmental indicators do not exceed the norms, moreover, that they are systematically improved. This is how we maintain the eco-friendly status for several years,” said Inna Kholina, head of the environmental protection department. After the beginning of the war, we, without exception, check all divisions, doing our work, as always, to the fullest extent. In order for the enterprise to survive in this struggle on the economic front, each division of the plant must work in strong tandem. We constantly cooperate with production divisions to quickly eliminate all discrepancies found during inspections, audits, analyzes and trials. Such close cooperation gives us the desired result - reducing the burden on the environment."
As noted, in the partial resumption of production after the forced shutdown of the equipment, the specialists of the Environmental Protection Agency professionally accompanied its launch, made sure that the parameters of the plant's operation complied with the norms of environmental protection legislation in three areas: air and water basins and waste management. Environmental protection work continues today.
Air and water quality control
Every day, specialists from the UPD laboratories measure indicators throughout the plant, take air samples in different departments, take samples and perform chemical analysis of water. Management engineers daily monitor environmental activities at the enterprise.
To reduce the environmental burden, specialists are constantly working on the development of new activities and projects. Specialists closely monitor compliance with the law, controlling all releases of iron and steel, making measurements, samples and analyzes of air and water.
According to the company's data, only in May, the UPD specialists conducted 80 inspections in the plant's divisions, including sintering, blast furnace, gas, and steelmaking. In addition, the environmentalists of the plant control the air conditioning and aspiration systems of Zaporizhstal and safe working conditions in terms of the influence of harmful factors in the workplace.
Waste control
The environmentalists of the plant also control that there is no mixing of waste, compliance of waste storage sites with special maps and schemes.
The company is convinced that waste sorting is an important aspect of the environmental friendliness of the plant. In production, we are talking not so much about household waste as about industrial waste, which should be stored under appropriate conditions, in specialized places and for a certain time.
Control over all these parameters is required in order to minimize the impact on the environment and not violate the laws of Ukraine. For the sake of this, the staff of the UPD, control laboratories and other departments perform a significant amount of work in any weather and season.
