Solar panels and heat pumps are compatible all year round

The Solar Powers Heat 2023 study found that co-installing solar panels and a heat pump could save households between 62% and 84% of their annual energy bills in 2022.

In the future, such a system will be able to provide savings of up to 76% on monthly bills, reports SolarPower Europe.

It is noted that the research was conducted in households in Germany, Spain and Italy, which have a strong dependence on natural gas.

The study found that the energy production profiles of heat pumps and solar panels are very similar. They are successfully combined, especially if you also use a buffer tank for water. This combination reduces household electricity bills and is also of great benefit to the energy system as a whole.

Modeling in the study showed that solar panels and heat pumps are compatible all year round. A solar photovoltaic system can meet up to 63% of the heat pump's annual electricity needs.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that a team of European scientists discovered that the installation of floating solar power plants in local reservoirs will be able to fully provide energy to 6,256 cities in 124 countries of the world. Such stations will also save 106 cubic kilometers of water per year from evaporation.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, research by the Ember think tank showed that in 2022, renewable energy produced 22% of all electricity in the EU states, surpassing energy produced from gas (20%) and coal (16%).
