Volyn resident arbitrarily dug a pond in the reserve: he will appear before the court

The National Park is home to 42 species of red-listed plants and 84 animals

In the Volyn region in the Kamin-Kashir district, a resident of the village of Zaliznytsia arbitrarily occupied 0.4 hectares of the territory of the Pripyat-Stokhid National Nature Park and built an artificial reservoir on it.

Prosecutors sent an indictment in criminal proceedings to the court, reports the press service of Volyn regional prosecutor's office.

The message noted that the man with the help of special equipment, he removed a fertile layer of soil to create a pond on a plot of particularly valuable land. He is accused of violating Part 2 of Art. 197-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The national park Pripyat-Stokhid protects forests, lakes, marshes and valleys of the Pripyat and Stokhid rivers. Their characteristic feature is the presence of dozens of arms, channels, backwaters, old women, among which there are many swampy and sandy islands. The National Park is home to 42 species of plants listed in the Red Book of Ukraine and 84 red book species of animals.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that a farmer in Kyiv region plowed about 0.27 hectares of the botanical reserve Astragal, where there was the northernmost population of reticulated crocus, woolly-flowered astragalus and other red book plants grew.
