The Russian-Ukrainian war was the only example of military aggression mentioned by Guterres in his speech

At the opening of the COP27 Climate Summit in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that the war in Ukraine revealed the serious risks of the world's dependence on fossil fuels

According to him, many modern conflicts are connected with the growing climate chaos, the Ministry of Environment reports on Facebook.

He emphasized that the war in Ukraine highlighted serious risks for the whole world.

"Today's world crises cannot be an excuse for giving up or illusory green policies. If anything, they are a reason for greater urgency, more decisive action and effective accountability," he said.

The message emphasized that the Russian-Ukrainian war was the only example of military aggression that Guterres mentioned in his speech.

"The war in Ukraine and other conflicts have caused much bloodshed and violence and had dramatic consequences around the world. But we cannot allow our focus to shift from the climate issue. Of course, we must work together to support peace efforts and end the immense suffering," he added.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that the Ukrainian delegation at the UN Climate Summit COP27 prevented another attempt by Russia to hybrid legalization of illegal annexation and occupation of Ukrainian territory.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, the US ambassador on climate change, John Kerry, said that the war in Ukraine should not be used as an excuse for continued global dependence on coal.
