Currently, about 25,000 houses have been damaged or destroyed in Kharkiv Oblast as a result of Russian aggression

A Decarbonization and Energy Efficiency Office has been opened in Kharkiv region, the fifth in Ukraine.

This will help support the development of modern energy efficiency and low-carbon economy trends in the region, as well as provide access to financial and government support, the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving reports on Facebook.

It is noted that the relevant memorandum was signed by the heads of the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving, Kharkiv Regional State Administration and Regional Council, as well as the Association of Local Governments of the region.

"We are determined to constructive and productive cooperation with all communities of Kharkiv region. And I am sure that together we will successfully go our way to reduce energy consumption and reduce CO2 emissions and rebuild the region on the principles of energy efficiency!" – said the head of the State Energy Efficiency Agency, Hanna Zamazeyeva.

The press service said that the Kharkiv region is one of the most affected by Russia's military aggression and is experiencing new destruction every day. Today, about 25,000 houses have been damaged or destroyed.

Zamazeyeva emphasized that during the development of plans for future reconstruction, the leadership of each region and heads of communities should already apply modern principles of energy efficiency and the development of a low-carbon economy. This will help to rebuild the country according to the European principle "Energy efficiency first".

It is noted that the Office will become a platform for:

  • communications between the State Energy Efficiency Agency and communities of Kharkiv region regarding the development of local energy plans;
  • implementation of energy management systems, energy audits and energy certification of buildings;
  • use of alternative energy sources and local fuels.

The press service added that during the opening of the Office, certificates were handed over to community energy managers who successfully completed their studies at O. M. Beketov Kharkiv National University of Urban Economy.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in Zhytomyr opened Office of decarbonization and energy efficiency, which became the fourth in Ukraine.

As EcoPolitic previously reported, the European Commission published the updated Energy Efficiency Directive 2023/1791, which introduces the principle of "energy efficiency first" in energy and non-energy policies.
